De hoogbejaarde blues zangeres Alberta Hunter (1895 - 1984) , de eerste zwarte zangeres die begeleid werd door een geheel blanke band (1923), was in de jaren twintig zo populair dat ze onder verschillende namen voor verschillende labels werkte. Op 82-jarige leeftijd maakte ze een come-back in het nachtclub circuit, waar ze met een stalen gezicht de dubbelzinnige liedjes uit haar jeugd vertolkte. Ze bleef optreden tot aan haar dood in 1984.
