My first encounters with jazz were through the 70's ECM records by artists like gary Burton, Chick Corea, Keith Jarret and Pat Metheny. Steve Swallow was an inspiration as well; a pioneer in finding a place for the bass guitar in the jazz genre. The music from these musicians has continued to speak to me. Now, a few decades later, with a fresh wind of inspiration, this porject is my humble shot at joining the conversation, albeit perhaps with a curious accent.
All of the compositions were written during 2010 with the combination of vibes, guitar, bass and drums in mind, except Barhopping, which survived from a batch of tunes written in the early 80's I am grateful for the support of Gunnar Graafmans, Daniel "Tato" de Moraes and Enrique Firpi. Thanks for being part of Zandscape and appreciating the music I put in front of you.
My gratitude also goes out to Deborah Carter, for sharing her life and music with me. Check out her at www.deborah.carter.com !
